Pediatric Fundamental of Critical Care Support (PFCCS) prepares non-intensivists, nurses, and critical care practitioners to deal with acute deterioration of critically ill pediatric patients for the first 24 hours until transfer or appropriate critical care can be arranged. Learners in the course will demonstrate integration of knowledge and assessment with performance of the following resuscitation skills of critically ill pediatric patients in a team based simulation scenarios:
- Cardiopulmonary Dysfunction;
- Mechanical Ventilation;
- Pediatric Interfacility Transport;
- Sedation;
- Radiology/Invasive Devices;
- Advanced Integration Scenarios (2)– Shock and Multiple Trauma
Upon successful completion of this course the learner will:
- Recognize early deterioration in a pediatric patient by identifying deviations from baseline physiological stability.
- Perform comprehensive assessment and initiate resuscitation of a critically ill child in scenario-based, scope-appropriate contexts.
- Demonstrate successful resuscitation of a critically ill child through the coordinated application of knowledge, skills, and teamwork in simulated settings (within scope).
- Apply theoretical knowledge effectively through engagement in case-based scenarios.
- Actively participate in skill drills and reliably perform return demonstrations of required interventions, in alignment with assigned team roles.
