Join us on November 12th for the second annual AdventHealth EMS Symposium, a must-attend event for EMS personnel and first responders from Volusia, Flagler, Lake, and Brevard counties. In addition to our Keynote Speaker Ken Bouvier, the symposium will also offer educational sessions on topics including surfing accidents, pediatric drowning, spine injuries, shark attach-hypovolemic shock, ECMO, stroke management and the use of TXA in trauma patients. This event isn't limeted to EMTs or PMDs, it is also open to first responders, water safety instructors, lifeguards and ER personal. Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your skills and network with other professionals in the field!

Speakers:

Ken Bouvier

Ken Bouvier serves as the Fire Chief at the Westwego, Louisiana Fire Department. He is an Executive Chief Officer, Paramedic and Professional Speaker known both nationally and internationally. His Fire / EMS career began in 1975 as a volunteer firefighter who advanced through the ranks to become the Fire Chief for Monsanto where he served 37 years. Coincidingly, he worked for New Orleans EMS for 33 years and retired as Deputy Chief of Operations. While working at New Orleans EMS he commanded major New Orleans events including Mardi Gras, 2 Super Bowls, hurricanes and managed the crews and appeared on the A&E Television Show NIGHTWATCH

 

Dennis L. Fortner III  has built w career rooted in clinical excellence and community service. He earned his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science from the University of South florida and completed his Physician Assistant training at Barry University in 2010. He began his career in trauma medicine, working across various regions of Florida and gaining hands-on experience in high-acuity settings. For the past ten years, he has been a dedicated provider at AdventHealth Palm Coast, where he continues to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care. In addition to his professional work, Dennis has been an active volunteer with Flagler County Fire Rescue (FCFR) since 2017, still regularly riding and contributing to emergency response efforts in the community.

 

Erik T Nason

Erick Nason is a veteran health care provider for over 27 years, who has experienced an amazing career as an Athletic Trainer within a variety of emerging settings. Erik received his Bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, his Master’s degree from Illinois State University and his MBA from Liberty University.  Currently, Erik serves as the Senior Manager of Sports Medicine for Partnerships at AdventHealth in Daytona Beach, FL. He is responsible for clinical integration, volume driving initiatives, marketing engagements, best practice development and educational programing within partnerships such as; Volusia County Schools, Flagler County Schools, NASCAR, Daytona International Speedway, Legacy Motor Club, Daytona Tortugas, Stetson University, The Orlando Magic and many more. Erik also serves as the Director of Operations for the Care Centers at the Daytona International Speedway.  Prior to his role at AdventHealth, Erik’s career consisted of 17 years as an Athletic Trainer at NASA’s RehabWorks Program, 2 years serving as an AT in an ortho office and 2 years as a Practice Manager for a large orthopedic office. Erik is the owner of Xtreme Action Sports Medicine (XASM), a company that provides consulting services and AT services to corporations and extreme sport organizations.  Erik recently, contracted with NASCAR as the head AT for the Garage 56 project at the 24 Hours of Lemans in France.  Through XASM, Erik has been serving as the Southeastern Program Manager for the Justin Sportsmedicine Program, providing athletic training/sports medicine care to rodeo athletes across Florida and in addition to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo annually in Las Vegas.

 

Justin Beyer MD

Justin S. Beyer is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician serving Volusia County, Florida, with a deep commitment to both clinical excellence and compassionate care. Practicing primarily at AdventHealth DeLand, he brings over seven years of frontline experience in emergency departments, where he combines medical expertise with a heart for service.

A graduate of Florida State University College of Medicine, Dr. Beyer completed his residency at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville. His academic journey began at Florida Institute of Technology, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Pre-medical Biology, graduating Summa Cum Laude while also excelling as a scholarship athlete in NCAA Division II basketball.

Beyond the hospital, Dr. Beyer is a dedicated community leader and volunteer. He serves on the board of Young Life New Smyrna Beach, mentors’ youth through church outreach, and actively participates in medical missions and health fairs. His faith is a guiding force in his life and practice, reflected in his involvement with the Christian Medical and Dental Association and his church service roles.

Dr. Beyer is also a published researcher, certified CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, and lifelong learner with multiple advanced life support certifications. Whether in the ER, the gym, or the community, he strives to live out his calling: to heal, to serve, and to lead with integrity.

 

Aaron Jenkins

Aaron Van Jenkins has proudly served Volusia County since 2002, beginning his career as an Ocean Rescue Lifeguard. In 2006, he transitioned into a full-time role, demonstrating unwavering dedication to public safety and coastal stewardship. His leadership journey began with his promotion to Beach Sergeant in 2012, followed by Beach Captain in 2014. In 2016, he was honored to assume the role of Deputy Chief, a position he continues to hold with distinction. Throughout his tenure, Deputy Chief Jenkins has exemplified professionalism, resilience, and a deep commitment to the safety and well-being of both residents and visitors. His service reflects a profound respect for the community and the natural beauty of Volusia County’s beaches.

 

Wissam Elfallal

Wissam Elfallal is a highly trained neurosurgeon, with a mission to provide world class brain and spine care at your community hospital. He received advanced subspecialty training in both skull base and minimally invasive spine Surgery from the prestigious Beaumont Health System, where he spent 3 years as the Chief resident, mentoring medical students and residents. He takes a holistic approach when diagnosing and determining treatment for his patients’. His special interests include cranial, minimally invasive spine, and peripheral nerve surgery. He currently holds the position of Chair of Spine for the American College of Osteopathic Surgeon and maintains memberships with the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and Minimally Invasive Neurological Society. He has been recognized with multiple awards, including physician of the quarter, intern of the year, and top doc. He is multilingual and is fluent in English, Arabic, and French.

 

Jeffrey Duncan

Jeffery Duncan has demonstrated significant expertise in managing complex inpatient conditions, including, Stroke, Hypertension, Anemia, Cardiac arrhythmia and Sepsis. As a hospitalist, Dr. Duncan focuses on the comprehensive care of hospitalized patients. His work includes: daily inpatient care and monitoring, discharge planning and transitional care and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. Dr. Duncan is part of AdventHealth’s commitment to whole-person care—addressing physical, mental, and spiritual health needs of patients

 

Alexander S Greene

Alexander Greene is a dual-trained cardiac anesthesiologist and critical care intensivist at AdventHealth Daytona Beach, where he serves as the lead intensivist in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). Dr. Greene completed his anesthesiology residency and critical care fellowship at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after earning his medical degree from the University of Florida College of Medicine. Board-certified in both anesthesiology and critical care, Dr. Greene specializes in the management of critically ill patients undergoing complex cardiothoracic surgery and the use of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) to support patients with severe cardiac and pulmonary failure. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate advanced mechanical support strategies that improve survival and recovery in the sickest patient populations.

 

Vijay Pandav, MD, MPH

Vijay Pandav is a board-certified Interventional Neurologist who specializes in stroke and endovascular surgical neuroradiology. After receiving his medical degree from Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai, India, Dr. Pandav also obtained a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of Southern Mississippi. He then went on to complete a neurology residency at Southern Illinois University, and a vascular neurology and endovascular surgical neuroradiology fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. A highly experienced clinician, Dr. Pandav, has previously served as the Medical Director for Interventional Neurology for Saint Francis Hospital Health System in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is a member of the Society for Vascular & Interventional Neurology and the Society of Neurointerventional Surgery.

 

Martin Corsten, MD

Martin Corsten is a board-certified otolaryngologist specializing in head and neck oncologic and skull base surgery. He earned his medical degree at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario and completed his residency in Otolaryngology at the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, Ontario. Dr. Corsten also completed a fellowship in head and neck oncologic and skull base surgery at the University of California, Davis. Most recently, Dr. Corsten was an Associate Professor in the Division of Otolaryngology at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, while also serving as the site chief of surgery at the Victoria General Hospital. Dr. Corsten has also chaired various hospital departments and boards. He has over 100 published works in refereed journals and has contributed chapters to several medical textbooks. Dr. Corsten has a strong commitment to medical education and research.

 

Mathew Biskup

AdventHealth Medical Group Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Daytona Beach is welcoming a new member to its esteemed medical team. Mathew Biskup, MD, is an otolaryngologist/head & neck surgeon who earned a medical degree from Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. He completed his residency in otolaryngology — head and neck surgery at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, in 2023, where he was chief resident. Dr. Biskup went on to complete a head and neck ablation and reconstruction fellowship at AdventHealth Celebration in Celebration, FL. He is the author of numerous publications and presentations and has been honored with many scholarships and awards for his work in medicine and academics. Dr. Biskup is highly dedicated to providing the best possible care for the body, mind and spirit of every patient.

Mark Bramblett

Mark Bramblett began his career in public safety in July of 1995, first as an EMT before obtaining his paramedic certification in March of 1998. Throughout his EMS career he has been employed at Advent Health Gordon Hospital EMS. He has served other communities by working at Redmond EMS, Chattooga EMS, Floyd EMS, and Rome-Med EMS. His passion for teaching and serving others led him to obtain his teaching credentials with the AHA, NAEMT and the State of Georgia as an EMS instructor. He previously held the title of Training Coordinator, Lieutenant, Captain at Advent Health Gordon before being named the Director for this service in April of 2023. He holds an AA in Business Administration and in 2019 completed a 160-hour EMS Leadership and Management Course through GEMSA and Georgia Southern University.  Mark serves his community by sitting on the EMS advisory committees for Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Calhoun Fire Department, and Calhoun City Schools, is President of the Calhoun-Gordon County LEPC, Family Resource Center board, and the Voluntary Action Center advisory board.
