Details

This certification course is designed for therapists and assistants who work with persons with soft tissue or neurological conditions requiring the use of ultrasound or electrical stimulation therapies to foster improved occupational participation.  This course covers the didactic portion of the Florida licensure requirements for physical agent modalities.  Client check-off forms will be provided at the course for participants to complete following this course.  A continental breakfast and afternoon snack will be provided.

Accreditation: This course has been approved for 8 hours of continuing education.

Course Presenter

Luis is an adjunct professor in the Master of Occupational Therapy program at AdventHealth University, teaching orthotics and modalities, while bringing clinical expertise and a strong passion for upper extremity rehabilitation. He has practiced in the field of occupational therapy since 2016.  He started his career as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant after graduating from AdventHealth University.  He later earned his Master of Science in  Occupational Therapy from the same institution in 2021.

His clinical experience spans a variety of settings, including skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehabilitation, and outpatient orthopedics. While he values the diversity of OT practice, his true passion lies in hand therapy, where he specializes in treating a wide range of upper extremity conditions.

Luis is committed to preparing future occupational therapists by combining evidence-based practice with real-world clinical insight, helping students develop into compassionate and skilled professionals.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this certification course attendees will be able to:

  1. Describe the physiological effects of ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
  2. Explain the role of ultrasound and electrical stimulation in rehabilitation and expected outcomes.
  3. Become knowledgeable in the general indications, contraindications, and precautions when using ultrasound and electrical stimulation.
  4. Choose the most appropriate modality depending on the diagnosis.
  5. Administer therapeutic ultrasound and electrical stimulation safely and with the proper dosage/parameter selection.
  6. Properly document ultrasound and electrical simulation treatments.
  7. Operate and describe characteristic of ultrasound and electrotherapy equipment.
  8. Describe normal and abnormal tissue responses to electrical stimulation and ultrasound.
  9. Understand Ohm's law of electricity.
  10. Understand physical laws related to passage of currents through various media.
