Foundations of Healthcare Simulation

Price: $15.00
Nursing CE: 1.50

Many educators currently lack formal, structured training in simulation pedagogy, which limits their ability to design and facilitate effective simulation experiences. This lack of preparation leads to inconsistencies in delivering evidence-based simulation-based education (SBE) across healthcare settings. As a result, the full educational benefits of simulation are not realized, and gaps in faculty competency may ultimately compromise the quality and safety of patient care. This program aims to enhance educators’ knowledge and skills in simulation pedagogy aligned with best practice standards, thereby increasing their competence and confidence in designing and facilitating effective healthcare simulations.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • Define healthcare simulation and explain its role in supporting clinical judgment and patient safety.
  • Explain educational theories that support the use of simulation.
  • Identify key simulation organizations (INACSL, SSH, ASPE) and explain their roles in establishing best practice standards.
  • Identify best practices in simulation facilitation for clinical practice.
  • Describe how the prebrief prepares the learner to be successful in meeting the simulation objectives.
  • Compare and contrast commonly used debriefing models and methods.
  • Demonstrate understanding of ethical principles in simulation.
