This course will provide an overview of the legal requirements and best practices for maintaining compliance with Title IX. Students and team members completing this course will gain understanding of their rights and protections under Title IX and how it supports their education. Participants will also be able to identify and report behaviors that may constitute sexual harassment, sex-based discrimination, and other forms of misconduct. This course will discuss various resources and the support available for victims. Our object is to create a safe campus where everyone feels protected.

Attestation:

  1. I understand that I am required to complete the courses assigned to me by Human Resources prior to my employment with AdventHealth University.
  2. I understand that in order to receive credit for completing the online course(s) for employment, I must watch the entire course, complete the quizzes, pass the posttest, and fill out the evaluation for each course.
  3. I agree to adhere to the online course/program integrity guidelines, and that once I have successfully completed the course, I will be able to print my Certificate of Completion and submit to the AHU Human Resources if required to do so.

Program Outcomes (Measurable):

  1. Participants will gain knowledge of Title IX by scoring 80% or better on posttest.
  2. Participants will be able to complete report of potential Title IX violations.
  3. Participants will contact Title IX Coordinator/Designee for any sex-based discrimination
  4. Participants will refer pregnant and parenting students to Title IX Coordinator to receive the support they need to continue their education without discrimination, leading to better educational outcomes for these students.

Participant objectives upon completion of this course, you will:

  1. Understand what Title IX is and why it is important;
  2. Recognize the importance of developing a culture of respect;
  3. Learn about an educational institution's role and responsibilities under Title IX;
  4. Know and identify conduct that violates Title IX policy;
  5. Understand two key concepts related to sexual misconduct: affirmative consent and incapacitation;
  6. Learn how, where and with whom to report a potential Title IX violation; and understand informal and formal resolutions available under Title IX.

Qualified Planners/Faculty

Sharda Sukhu-Gafoor, MSN, RN

Sharda Sukhu-Gafoor is a nurse with more than 30 years in acute care. She has worked multiple roles including Emergency Department and Critical Care. She is also very knowledgeable about acute care regulatory and accreditation process. She transferred to AdventHealth University in May 2022 and as a part of the nursing faculty team. Her passion for compliance leads her to her current role of Chief Compliance Officer at  AHU. Sharda is an alumnus of AHU where she has earned her MSN in Nursing Leadership.  In her free time, she loves to discover new places and embrace new experiences. Going for long walks is her favorite thing to do regularly.
