Stress Testing in Cardiac Nuclear Medicine Technology is designed for healthcare professionals specializing in nuclear cardiology in the area of exercise stress testing with and without pharmacologic agents. However, it is an excellent course for all healthcare professionals seeking to learn more about stress testing. The first part of the course addresses exercise stress testing measurements and indications, and patient selection and care. The last section gives an overview of pharmacologic stress testing and radioimaging, including agents, protocols, and patient monitoring.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  1. Describe the key aspects of exercise stress testing: measurements available, contraindications and indications, the physiologic measures obtained, and the equipment used.
  2. Identify the purposes and the patients appropriate for pharmacologic stress testing.
  3. Name and describe available pharmaceutical stress agents, including appropriate administration protocols and contraindications for their uses.
  4. Name and describe available radioimaging agents, including appropriate administration protocols and contraindications for their uses.
  5. Identify key aspects of the nuclear technologist's role in quality control and patient care.

Qualified Planners/Faculty

Elizabeth Duncan, MSHS, CNMT, RT(CT)

Elizabeth is a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist and is currently working as Program Director for the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program and Imaging Sciences Chair at AdventHealth University.  Her main responsibility is for all aspects of the nuclear medicine program including didactic and clinical instruction, course content, program curriculum, student evaluation and counseling.  At the University, she has also taught classes in Radiobiology and Radiation Protection, Advanced Imaging, Introduction to Clinicals, as well as many others.  Her past experience includes medical sales and supervision of a Nuclear Cardiology Department.  Liz is the 2011-2012 recipient of the Faculty Merit Award for Professional Service presented by AdventHealth University.

Joseph R. Hawkins, M.S.Ed, CNMT

Mr. Hawkins graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Rochester Institute of Technology and a Master of Science in Education from St. Joseph’s College of Maine. He is the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation at AdventHealth University. Previously, he served as an Associate Professor and the Program Director for the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program from its inception in 2001 until 2019. Mr. Hawkins has over 30 years of experience in Nuclear Medicine as an educator, technologist, and industry representative. He is currently the Secretary/Treasurer of the board for the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine Technology (JRCNMT). He is active in the Technologist Section of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) having served as Chair of both the Entry Level Curriculum Committee and the Student Membership Task Force and as a member of the National Council of Representatives. He has presented at numerous national, regional, and state meetings, and was awarded the AHU Faculty Merit Award for Professional Service and the SNMMI Outstanding Educator Award.

Revisioning Author: Lynn Rowe, PhD, RN

Dr. Rowe has been an adjunct faculty member with AdventHealth University (AHU) since 1997 and fulltime faculty member since January 2018. Her degrees include a BSN-Florida State University, MSN-University of Phoenix (Education, and Leadership) and PhD for University of Arizona (Biological Injury). Her research interests include issues in complications of transplantation, and multiple other topics surrounding the practice of nursing. Dr. Rowe has over 30 years of clinical experience including cardiovascular progressive care, multisystem intensive care unit and liver, pancreas, and kidney transplantation. 12 years as a unit/system educator for Neurointensive care and Multisystem ICU and 5 years in support in the nursing Research department. Dr. Rowe continues to support nursing practice through collaborative activities with various hospital campuses and serves as the chair of the Scientific review committee to review the collaborative efforts of university faculty.
