Myocardial Perfusion Imaging was designed by Nuclear Medicine Technologists for Nuclear Medicine Technologists who routinely perform nuclear cardiology procedures, but is an excellent course for any healthcare professional caring for patients with cardiovascular disease. The course provides an overview of many aspects of myocardial perfusion imaging, including safe patient preparation, radiopharmaceuticals, acquisition parameters, processing, and potential artifacts.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  1. List the indications and contraindications for myocardial perfusion imaging.
  2. List the characteristics of the radiopharmaceuticals used for myocardial perfusion imaging.
  3. List the parameters of various acquisition protocols.
  4. Understand the importance of correct processing technique and the basics of quantitative analysis.
  5. Identify potential artifacts in myocardial perfusion imaging.
  6. Describe procedures that can be used to prevent artifacts.

Qualified Planners/Faculty

Elizabeth Duncan, MSHS, CNMT, RT(CT)

Elizabeth is a certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist and is currently working as Program Director for the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program and Imaging Sciences Chair at AdventHealth University.  Her main responsibility is for all aspects of the nuclear medicine program including didactic and clinical instruction, course content, program curriculum, student evaluation and counseling.  At the University, she has also taught classes in Radiobiology and Radiation Protection, Advanced Imaging, Introduction to Clinicals, as well as many others.  Her past experience includes medical sales and supervision of a Nuclear Cardiology Department.  Liz is the 2011-2012 recipient of the Faculty Merit Award for Professional Service presented by AdventHealth University.

Joseph R. Hawkins, M.S.Ed, CNMT

Joseph is formerly the Program Director of the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program at AdventHealth University.  In 2020, Joe took a new role at the University as director of Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation.  He still teaches an Instrumentation course for the program.  Prior to joining the faculty at AHU, Joe was Assistant Professor and Program Director at Prince George's Community College, Largo, Maryland. Throughout his tenure, Joe has made significant contributions in his profession through various publications, workshops, textbook reviews, presentations, and involvement with various Nuclear Medicine organizations. Joe earned his BS in Nuclear Medicine Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology; MS in Education at St. Joseph's College of Maine; CNMT and attended State University of New York, Buffalo, N.Y. Joseph is the 2009-2010 recipient of the Faculty merit Award for Professional Service presented by AHU.

Revisioning Author: Lou R. Wolsefer, BS-CNMT, ARRT (CT)

Lou is a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist with 31 years of diversified experience. She graduated in1987 from the Baccalaureate Nuclear Medicine Technology program of the Medical College of Georgia. Proficient with GE, ADAC/Philips, Siemens' system, and Cardinal Health's SynTrac System. She is instrumental in numerous successful JCAHO and Florida State inspections and has ICANL experience. Lou has a strong background in Nuclear Cardiology and is a Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT Technologist at Lake Medical Imaging in Leesburg FL.
