12: Emotional Intelligence

This course introduces what emotional intelligence is, why it is important to your life and to those whose lives you touch, and how you can nurture and cultivate your emotional intelligence. This is not an exhaustive reporting of all the perspectives and research, but it is an overview that may serve as a starting point to future exploration of the topic.

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  1. Understand emotional intelligence and be able to recognize the role of emotional intelligence (EI).
  2. Recognize and begin nurturing awareness of EI principles in your own life.
  3. Begin exploring ways to incorporate EI in caring for and interacting with others.

Theresa E. Hood, M.Div., BCC

Terry is a Board-Certified Chaplain and Education Specialist/adjunct faculty member for Clinical Pastoral Education at AdventHealth Orlando, FL.  She has a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Central Florida and a Master of Divinity Degree from Reformed Theological Seminary. She became a Board-Certified Chaplain in May 2006.  She has also completed the Specialty Certificate Program for Palliative Care Chaplaincy in 2015. In addition to healthcare chaplaincy, Terry has served as pastor for The First United Church of Christ in Orlando and The First Congregational Church of Plainfield, CT.  In her previous career, she was a certified financial planner. She has lived and worked in Connecticut, Rhode Island, North Carolina, and Florida. Terry is an ordained minister in the Congregational Church, United Church of Christ.
