The AdventHealth University Research Office aims to provide efficient support to the principal investigators, faculty, staff, and students involved in scholarly studies while leveraging to act on the institutional mission and more immediate strategic goals in scholarship. We are creating a new course series focused on the strategic goals in scholarship and how our services will be an asset to our university.

 

Leana PhD, MS Araujo, PhD, MS

Dr. Leana Araujo has been teaching health sciences courses for over 10 years and thoroughly enjoys connecting with students in the classroom to discuss ideas and evidence-based literature. She is passionate about conducting research especially in the area of human physiology and, more specifically, chronobiology.

Dr. Araujo graduated in Physical Therapy in 2002 and specialized with the degree of Residency in Orthopedic Physical Therapy in 2004. After working in the clinical field for several years, she decided to dedicate her professional life toward the academia as a faculty and researcher. She earned her Masters in Research Science in 2008 in the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) where she studied the circadian rhythm of physical performance. For her Ph.D. in Public Health completed in 2015 at the University of Sao Paulo (USP), she studied the effects of night work on circadian rhythms of inflammation markers.

Dr. Araujo has been conducting research related to shift work, sleep deprivation, physical performance, fatigue, and immune system. She has published many articles in peer-reviewed journals, including chronobiology journals, and has presented at national and international scientific conferences. She is also a peer-reviewer for journals in the areas of her research topics as Clinical Physiology and Functional Imaging Journal, Scientific Reports Journal, and Chronobiology International Journal.

Dr. Araujo joined the University in January 2016 as an Associate Professor, teaching various courses for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program, and Health and Biomedical Sciences Program. She is also the Research Officer of the University in which she manages the faculty and student research approval process.
