Quantitative Analysis: Numbers are Beautiful

A discussion on basic methodologies to analyze numbers and investigate for any differences or relationships of significance (or not) so that we can electrify the world in awe-ful (full of awe) ways. Please bring your laptop (with Excel) so that you can gleefully participate in the number games that we play.

This course reports to CE Broker
  1. Describe statistical significance.
  2. Conduct basic tests of differences between groups.
  3. Conduct basic tests of relationship and prediction between variables.

Roy Lukman, PhD

Dr. Roy Lukman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Behavioral Science at Atlantic Union College in 1976. At Andrews University he earned a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Counseling, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Research and Measurements in 1979 and 1983 respectively.

Dr. Lukman joined Florida Hospital in 1983 as Director of the Employee Assistance Program. In 1988, he became the Director of Academic Affairs for Florida Hospital’s Graduate Medical Education Department, as well as holding positions as the Director of Research, and the Associate Director for Behavioral Medicine. In 2010, he joined Adventist University of Health Sciences as a Professor and the Director of Institutional Effectiveness.

Dr. Lukman has co-authored several articles: K. Kratz, S. Spytek, A. Carceres, and S. Marus, and R. Lukman, “A randomized, Single-Blinded Pilot Study Evaluating Use of Laparoscope or a Cystoscope for Cystoscopy During Gynecologic Surgery” in Journal of Minimally Invasive Gynecology, 2012.N. Crigger and C. Galusha, “Do We Discriminate?” inMen in Nursing, and “Classroom Lectures Do Not Influence Family Practice Residents’ Learning” was written in 1998 by Dr Lukman, S. Warner, D. Williams, C. Powell, and K. Kundinger and published in Academic Medicine.

Dr. Lukman is also Chair of the Scientific Review Committee for the University which consults on research design and statistical analysis for both faculty and students at ADU.
