Details

This course will provide the participant with a review and understanding of the Allen Cognitive Theory and cognitive levels. Participants will gain hands on experience, using the Allen Cognitive Level Screen (ACLS) and will then learn to apply results to goal writing and functional outcomes. This course is designed for occupational therapists and assistants, who work with persons with any kind of cognitive dysfunction: including dementia, stroke, TBI, Parkinson's Disease, mental illness, etc.

Upon Completion of this seminar, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe the six cognitive levels of function and the modes of performance that subdivide the levels.
  2. Discuss how to use task equivalence through task analysis, in order to set realistic and relevant treatment goals; predict treatment functional outcomes; make recommendations for environmental modifications that maximize independence and protect patient safety.
  3. Describe and discuss the Allen Cognitive Level Screening, to evaluate cognitive level of function.
