This Renal: Abnormalities and Treatment course is designed for nursing professionals and describes several common renal alterations and disease states. Course content includes the etiology, pathophysiology, patient care, and treatment issues and choices with these diseases, as well as issues related to diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients with acute and chronic renal failure.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  1. Differentiate etiologies of pre, intra, and post renal failure.
  2. Compare and contrast acute renal failure and chronic renal failure.
  3. Discuss treatment modalities/options for patients with renal failure.
  4. Identify appropriate care techniques and nutritional concerns for patients with renal abnormalities.
  5. Verbalize an understanding of pharmacokinetics as they relate to patients with renal insufficiency/failure.

Lynn A. Rowe, PhD, RN

Lynn A. Rowe, PhD, RN, graduated from Florida State University School of Nursing in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1991 with a BSN degree. She received her MSN from University of Phoenix in 1999. She received her PhD in Nursing from the University of Arizona in 2014. After graduation, she began work as a staff nurse in a medical telemetry unit at Florida Hospital from 1991-1994. She entered the CCNIP training program in 1994 and completed with final placement in the MSICU as a staff nurse from 1994 to 1999. In 1999, Ms. Rowe assumed the position as an Education Specialist for that unit and remained there until 2001 when she accepted the position of Clinical Nurse Specialist for MSICU, Dialysis, and Urology. Her current position is as a Nurse Research Scientist in the department of Clinical Excellence and Research.
