This college volunteer course is designed for the AdventHeatlh University student who would like to fulfill his or hers community service hours at one of our AdventHealth locations. This course is brief. We review AHU's mission, vision, and motto statement, outline the process steps to be a student volunteer at AdventHealth, AHU student expectations, and where to find information. Student code of conduct and dress code are also discussed concluding with a brief post-test.

 

Upon successful completion of this AHU student program you will be able to:

  1. Understand how AdventHealth University's mission and values align with AdventHealth.
  2. Identify the process steps in becoming a volunteer.
  3. Implement the steps in logging your volunteer hours for tracking purposes for the University and for you to use in your future pursuits.

Kendra Presley-Van Houten, BA, CCEL

Kendra Presley-Van Houten began her career with Adventist University of Health Sciences (ADU) in 2014. Within less than a year, she was promoted to Director of Community Engagement, the role she currently holds. Prior to ADU, she served as Director of Development and Volunteer Services for two different local organization for vulnerable populations. From 2010-2012, Mrs. Presley-Van Houten managed the administrative details of the Florida Hospital Family Medicine Residency, overseeing the licensure process for residents and aiding the program in receiving its first 10 year accreditation under new leadership.

2005-2010, Mrs. Presley-Van Houten worked for an international organization, serving as fundraising manager, focusing on donor relations, corporate sponsorships, corporate gifts, and major donors. In 2005, Mrs. Presley-Van Houten moved from Kentucky to Orlando, FL and worked as a contract grant writer for the social services division of a children’s hospital. Prior to relocating, she worked for over three years for a hospital foundation in her hometown in Kentucky, where she wrote and received grants for free clinic projects to serve uninsured populations, managed medical student rotations, and built relationships with various members of the community.

Mrs. Presley-Van Houten’s career began in 1997, while a student at the University of Kentucky, working for a dean’s office in donor relations. In 2001, Mrs. Presley-Van Houten graduated with honors from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Public Relations, and an interdisciplinary minor in Art, Music, Theatre, and Arts Administration. In 2017, she earned her Certification in Community Engaged Leadership (CCEL) from Kansas State University, and began the Executive Master of Healthcare Administration at Adventist University of Health Sciences Online in 2018. I understand that after registering on the AdventHealth Volunteer Services web site, I am required to complete the AdventHealth Volunteer Services Orientation Program and the AdventHealth University Orientation Program assigned to me by the Director of Community Engagement prior to my consideration for an interview.

I understand that in order to receive credit for completing the online courses(s) for Volunteer Services I must watch the entire course, complete the quizzes, pass the post test, and fill out the evaluation for each course.

I agree to adhere to the online course/program integrity guidelines and that, once I have successfully completed the course, I will be able to print my Certificate of Completion and submit to the Volunteer Office if required to do so.

Completion Requirements: To receive completion the participant must:

  • View all modules
  • Participate and pass all learning checks
  • Pass the Post Test(s) with a score of 100%
  • Complete and submit the on-line evaluation

Completion Certificates: Will be available to print immediately upon successful completion of this online course. It also will be stored electronically in your profile under your course history.

Electronic Record Retention: All activity records are kept on file for a minimum of six (6) years.
