NMT/RT Part 1: Anatomy & Physiology - Cardiovascular

This Cardiovascular course reviews normal structure and function of the cardiovascular system. Its importance to homeostasis and cellular well-being is discussed, and the role of the autonomic nervous system is evaluated. Treatments for cardiovascular dysfunction are assessed.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  1. Identify the role of circulating blood in meeting cellular needs and maintaining homeostasis.
  2. Describe the normal structure and function of the cardiovascular system.
  3. Analyze the relationship between autonomic nervous system response and cardiovascular function.
  4. List the factors that affect cardiac output and explain its impact on body perfusion.
  5. Describe the impact of medications on the autonomic nervous system.

Karen Kelly, RN, BSN

Karen Kelly, RN, BSN, graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Currently, she is employed as an Education Specialist at the Center for Nursing Education at Florida Hospital in Orlando. She is responsible for the training/orientation of all new clinical employees, scheduling and tracking new employees through training programs, as well as interviewing candidates, and teaching cardiovascular content for the critical internship program. Ms. Kelly is an ACLS instructor and performs a needs assessment each year for Florida Hospital’s education program. In 1991 she was selected as Florida Hospital Employee of the Year.
