This course is for Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. This course fulfills 1-hour of the continuing education requirement as stated in 64B9-5.013 for nursing license renewal.

Covered in this course is the Nurse Practice Act, Agencies and Statutes, Licensure in the State of Florida, License Renewal Requirements, and Additional Licensing Information. echelon® is an approved CE provider by the Florida Board of Nursing, provider number 50-4008.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  1. Discuss the agencies in the State of Florida that makes the statutes, enforce, and define the rules and codes governing nursing.
  2. Describe the differences between laws, codes and rules.
  3. Understand and describe the legislative purpose for the Nurse Practice Act.
  4. Verbalize specific laws and rules related to the practice of nursing and nurse-assisting
  5. Discuss the general requirements for continuing education in the State.
  6. Define the general requirements for license renewal in the State

M. Julie Talmadge, DNP, APRN, FNP-BC

Dr. Julie Talmadge is a family nurse practitioner with 15 years of experience as a  nurse practitioner.  She currently works in acute care with a surgical residency program in Orlando, Florida.  In 2013 she was awarded her Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Florida in Gainesville.  Dr. Talmadge is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Central Florida Advanced Nursing Practice Council.  She currently serves on the Florida Board of Nursing, as appointed by the Governor (term 2018-2020). She has been adjunct faculty at the University of Central Florida and has precepted graduate nurse practitioner students.
