This course, Introduction to Critical Care Nursing, was created to help ensure a successful learning experience with online education. It is organized in two parts:

Part 1: Reviews several characteristics of online content delivery, presents concepts related to declarative and procedural learning, and describes study techniques for successfully completing online courses and for achieving learning outcomes.

Part 2: Guides the learner on a navigational journey through accessing and evaluating medical resources on the Internet and through the specific components and functionality of the Critical Care Nursing Program.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
  1. Relate elements of quality online courses including advantages and challenges related to this delivery system.
  2. Recognize the relationship between temperament, time, and technical competency and successful online learning.
  3. Describe specific techniques to successfully study and learn concepts and processes in the online environment.
  4. Use several search engines to access and evaluate medical information from the Internet.
  5. Navigate through the components of an online course.

Qualified Planners/Faculty

Judith Anderson, Ph.D., EDS, MA, BA

Judith Anderson has nearly 40 years of experience in education. She holds a BA degree in Psychology, a MA in Education Curriculum and Instruction, a EDS in Multi-age and Small Schools/Rural Education, and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction. She served 25 years as an elementary and junior high teacher and administrator. She was a professor at Andrews University from 1993-2001 in the Teacher Education Program and in the School of Education Graduate Program where she served as an advisor, a professor for Curriculum and Instruction, and chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Religious Education, and Education and Leadership. Her focus and teaching areas in higher education included Methods Courses in Reading, Math, Social Studies, and Science; Multi-age Education, Multiple Intelligences; Curriculum Design; Instructional Strategies; and Assessment Practices. She developed a Field-based Masters Program for educators, using a blended learning approach that combined online education with on-campus intensives and worked with Doctoral cohorts in Norway, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. She also served as a curriculum consultant, teacher trainer, and researcher for an online elementary and secondary program for students in small schools and in rural areas.

She has served as the Executive Director of Curriculum and New Program Development for echelon. She has prepared well over one hundred academic and continuing education courses for publication in such areas as Nuclear Medicine Technology, Computed Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Home Health Care, Critical Care Nursing, Cardiac Care, and Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy for physicians. She has received additional education in online course design, e-learning strategy, and blended learning principles. She has adapted a curriculum design model to be used for the development and delivery of online education and training.

  • Pass the Post Test(s) with a minimum score of 80%
  • Complete and submit the on-line evaluation

Certificates of Completion: will be available to print immediately upon finishing the completion requirements.
