echelon® Offers Unique In-Residence PETech Training Opportunity

Healthcare professionals shadow Florida Hospital technologists and learn about the latest GE Medical Systems equipment including the Discovery LS PET/CT

Orlando, Fla., May 23, 2002 – echelon® , a division of Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, recently announced the addition of a three-day program for training nuclear medicine technologists in Positron Emission Technology. Developed through a partnership between echelon® and GE Medical Systems, the PETech In-Residence program presents the technologist with the opportunity to obtain in-person training on the latest GE Medical Systems PET technology, including the Discovery LS PET/CT system.

On May 15, GE Medical Systems and Florida Hospital announced the installation of the Discovery LS PET/CT system at the hospital’s Orlando facility. Through the combination of functional and anatomical information, PET/CT detects diseases earlier and allows radiologists to diagnose them more precisely. GE Medical Systems selected echelon to provide the training for healthcare providers that purchase PET scanners. The training is also available to others who are interested in PET.

Learning about this advanced technology is just one of the many exciting components to echelon’s PETech In-Residence course. The three-day echelon training session, which is held at Florida Hospital—Orlando, provides participants with a comprehensive review of the latest imaging technology. It also combines classroom discussion with hands-on experiences and offers the opportunity to shadow expert Florida Hospital technologists. Sessions featured include:

  • Setting up an Advanced Nuclear Imaging Center
  • Workings of the cyclotron, including a cyclotron facility tour
  • PET safety
  • Mobile PET scanner issues, procedures, and quality control
  • Fixed PET clinical observation
  • Radiologist-led PET scanner case study review
  • Hands-on PET workstation practice session

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and the Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Radiation Control accredit the PETech In-Residence course for a total of 22 continuing education hours. For information about future session dates and registration, visit the GE Medical Systems web site at http://gemedicalsystems.com/rad/nm_pet/education/nm_education_index.html
