BEST PRACTICES IN
EDUCATION
At echelon we develop our courses according to sound principles of instructional design and e-learning. Best Practices in adult education show that interactive, multimedia programs that support multiple learning styles have the greatest impact. Our courses combine audio, video, and animated graphics in ways that optimize interactive learning. Healthcare professionals learn, not through reading articles or passively viewing PowerPoint presentations, but through participating in activities designed to reinforce concepts and stimulate thinking.
RESOURCES FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
echelon serves the continuing education needs of healthcare professionals in more ways than offering high-quality online courses. We also recognize that to develop professionally, healthcare workers need ready access to valuable resource materials and tools to help manage their career development. These echelon services include:
- A Resource Center giving users quick access to a variety of media-rich resource materials
- A personal home page that lets users see what courses they've taken, what they've completed, and what they should take next
- The Vita Vault, an online resume generator allowing users to easily manage career information and keep it current
echelon's HISTORY
In 1990 Florida Hospital administrators asked Dr. David Greenlaw to establish the College of Health Sciences as the educational arm of their organization. The college opened its
doors in 1992, offering associate of science degrees in nursing, radiography, and diagnostic medical sonography. These programs have achieved great success; the Chauncey Group ranks the associate-level nursing program as among the top 3 percent of nursing programs in the United States. With over 800 students, the College has expanded its offerings to include A.S. programs in pre-professional studies, occupational therapy assistant, nuclear medicine technologist, and radiological sciences, and baccalaureate degrees in nursing and radiological sciences. It also offers several professional certificate programs. In 2000, the College received a ten-year accreditation term from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. All individual professional programs are accredited by their respective accrediting organizations.
In 2000, Dr. Greenlaw started
searching for a way to endow the college. He began exploring relationships with organizations on the cutting edge of educational technology, including the
U.S. Navy. What emerged was an initiative to create a company that would
provide internet-delivered continuing medical education courses, and ultimately establish an endowment to the Florida
Hospital College of Health Sciences. That company has become echelon.
